VBTA Fall Conference

The Vermont Business Teachers’ Association recently held its annual fall conference and business meeting at the Windjammer Conference Center in South Burlington, Vermont. Thirty-seven technical center, high school, and college business teachers from around the state attended the full day event. A dozen vendors displayed their wares and made short presentations to the group. Matt Wohl, from Knowledge Wave Training in South Burlington, presented two workshops, one pertaining to the new Microsoft Vista computer operating system and one, dealing with Microsoft’s Office 2007, explaining the differences between it and the previous editions. Arthur Woolf, associate professor of economics at the University of Vermont made a presentation about financial literacy for high school age students. Arthur provided the teachers with a number of free and inexpensive resources. After lunch and the business meeting, Cynthia Webster, director of retirement policy and outreach for the Vermont teachers’ retirement system, provided an informational session regarding the retirement programs available to teachers in Vermont. Her comments satisfied both the experienced and beginning teachers. The organization also announced the first time presentation of the Warren Clifford Award to Brattleboro Savings & Loan, which will actually take place at a later date. Presented for the first time, was the Barbara Gerardi Foley Award, to Christine Pietryka of the Stafford Technical Center in Rutland. Visualizing our roles as business leaders and promoting understanding and appreciation for and about business/technology. Exploring opportunities for professional growth in business/technology education.
